Content Instruction and Authentic Writing in Science: The Bridge to Writing Growth for Struggling Learners - (ALTERNATE LOCATION) - 014248
Writing can be difficult for students, and many teachers question how to support struggling learners so that they can increase their writing proficiency. In this session, teachers discover how to use a science-content lens to implement effective, consistent, and - most importantly - authentic writing opportunities for students. Teachers will engage in effective planning practices and bring student writing samples to evaluate for increasing complex sentence structures, which reflect student growth. By participating in this hands-on training, teachers will make the connection between content-area expectations and writing instruction! A portion of the day will devote time to planning and development of scaffolds needed to support students with authentic writing connected to an upcoming science concept.

Audiences Instructional Leaders, Teacher - Elementary (Grades 1-5), Teacher - General Education, Teacher - High School (Grades 9-12), Teacher - Middle School (Grades 6-8), Teacher - ESL (English as a Second Language), Teacher - Special Education, Teacher Certification Candidate
