Mental Health First Aid (in proud partnership with MHMR of Tarrant County) - 012097
Did you know you are more likely to encounter a person in an emotional or mental crisis than someone having a heart attack? Mental disorders are more common than heart disease and cancer combined. Mental health crises occur frequently in your workplace, church, family, school, and community; and, it accounts for 15 percent of the total economic burden of all untreated disease in the United States. In this forum, you will learn the prevalence of mental illnesses in the U.S., the emotional and economic cost, and the potential warning signs and risk factors for depression. We will touch on anxiety disorders, trauma, psychotic disorders, eating disorders, and substance abuse disorders. We will discuss a five-step action plan to help an individual in crisis connect to professional care and learn about the resources available to help him or her with a mental health issue.
