Literacy for Little Ones: Developing Early Braille Skills for Young Children through Training for Parent/Guardians and Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments - 014685
To support the unique needs of early braille learners, ages birth to five years, their teachers and families, this training series will teach the use of assessment tools, curricular materials, and hands-on experiential activities to foster and promote emergent literacy in the home and transition to early childhood education.

Training topics to support early braille literacy includes the following:
  1. Fine Motor Skills
  2. Concept Development
  3. Language Acquisition and
  4. Emergent Reading and Writing
During the initial session, families and their children will receive an orientation to the program as well as participate in motivational learning activities that foster best practices in early literacy. Families and others involved with each childs education are encouraged to participate in activities that are to be implemented between sessions.

Audiences Parents, Teacher - Special Education
Prerequisite/Special Notes Teams consisting of a family/parent of a young child who is pre-braille or early braille learner and their Teacher of Student with Visual Impairments (TVI) and/or Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) is required for this training sequence.
