Special Education Evaluation Webinar Series: Exploring Gender Differences in the Identification of ASD - 014796
According to the most current data from the Center for Disease Control Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM), about one in 59 children has been identified with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), with a ratio of 4:1 males to females. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition (DSM-5), acknowledges potential for "Gender-Related Diagnostic Issues" in the autism spectrum disorder section, noting potentially subtler social and communication characteristics. This session will identify and explore emerging research regarding potential gender differences in the school-based identification of autism under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
